San Diego Infrared Sauna

Amazing Yoga & Pilates has recently added a FAR Infrared Sauna to the yoga studio, and is now offering sauna sessions to our yoga students by appointment.  Please see the schedule page for further details on availability.  The new Infrared Sauna can accommodate up to two people and includes relaxing music, light & negative ion therapy. What is an Infrared Sauna?

Infrared sauna heat is dry, gentle, radiant  versus the harsh,  claustrophobic, humid heat of a traditional sauna. In an infrared sauna, the infrared heater produces radiant energy, which is the same as the heat from the sun, only without the harmful ultraviolet rays. The far infrared heat penetrates your skin, giving you that wonderful natural warmth.  Infrared heat is so safe it is used in hospitals to warm newborn infants.

How Does it Work?

The infrared energy penetrates deep into your body - up to 2-3 inches deep. This deep penetration causes a heating effect deep in your muscles and your organs. It increases your metabolic rate. A single sauna session will burn 200-500 calories, as many as rowing a boat for 30 minutes or running several miles. 
 
The temperature of a far infrared sauna is typically between 120 -130F versus a traditional sauna which operates between 180-220F.  Fat becomes water soluble at 100F when it begins to dissolve, move through the blood and finally is removed from the body, resulting in weight loss. Toxins are also eliminated through your skin using lower, comfortable temperatures, for rapid detoxification.

Infrared heat is so effective that you only need 20-30 minutes to achieve all the benefits.

What is the Recommended Frequency?

Just like Yoga practice, consistency in your sauna utilization is even more important than frequency. For example, you will achieve more benefits if you consistently use the Infrared Sauna once a month versus skipping a few months and doing 3 sauna sessions in one month.
